Chochin Lamp 01 - Donguri
Handcrafted by Asano Shoten in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, the Chochin Lamp 01 – Donguri reinterprets the traditional Japanese paper lantern through a contemporary lens.
Made using premium Mino washi paper and a spiralled bamboo rib structure, each lamp is formed by hand using wooden moulds. The bamboo frame is carefully wrapped, glued and papered panel by panel — a labour-intensive process refined over generations of lantern making.
Named Donguri (どんぐり), meaning “acorn,” the softly rounded form diffuses light evenly, casting a warm, ambient glow. A slender metal frame subtly lifts the lantern from the surface, giving the piece a light, almost floating presence — equally suited to living spaces, bedrooms or quiet corners.
